It is confirmed now! OnePlus 6T won’t have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It was confirmed by none other than Carl Pie, the Co-founder of OnePlus in an exclusive interview with TechRadar. Also, it is interesting to note that he did not mention the new device like the OnePlus 6T, but instead, he used the term “next One Plus handset”. The decision was made keeping in mind the bigger picture. Carl pointed out that removing the headphone jack is justifiable keeping in view of including something better. He explained that it offers room for enhanced battery life and for the enhanced smartphone experience.

He further said that about 59% of the community-owned wireless headphones even before the launch of the company’s own “Bullet wireless headphones”. He expects the figures to increase more owing to the tremendous response for Bullet wireless headphones. So, what are the benefits of ditching the headphone jack? Pie said that the removal of the jack allows for the inclusion of better technology in the phone. It will help to incorporate bigger power packs for improved battery life. Also, the in-display fingerprint sensor is also thought to occupy some space.

However, he also mentioned the steps they are taking to overcome the fears of not having a headphone jack among its users. One of them is to include an adapter in the box that allows you to use 3.5mm headphones normally. Furthermore, OnePlus will bring an improvised version of Bullet V2 wired headphones with a USB-C connector. But in the case of lower battery, it won’t be feasible to use headphones in place of charging in the single port. The 3.5 mm headphone has been an intricate part of all the OnePlus handsets starting from OnePlus3. However, Carl Pie is confident that the new features outweigh the negativity surrounding the OnePlus 6T headphone jack.
