Amazon launches ‘Internet’ a lite web browser app for Android users in India

Amazon has quietly launched a web browser app dubbed Internet aimed at minimizing data and storage. It occupies very less space (2Mb) as compared to other browsers like chrome (21 Mb), Opera (14.7 Mb), and Uc browser (37 Mb). The app web live in March but rather went unnoticed until Techcrunch spotted it. The app also has less than 1000 installs in Google Play. The Internet is restricted to emerging markets like India wherein there are still areas with limited internet accessibility. This might be the reason for Amazon not making any major announcement regarding the app.

The app packs exciting features like privacy tabs similar to Incognito of chrome in a desktop that doesn’t store browser history. In addition, it also features automatic full-screen mode and integrated news reader, which appears on the homepage. The newsreader contains up to date cricket news and other major headlines and entertainment that is sourced from top websites. Looking to download from Google Play? Internet resembles other light apps like Facebook lite, Youtube Go and Gmail Go which are the lite versions of the original mobile apps. However, Internet varies in the fact it is specially launched app and not any lite version of the original app. Unlike the other browsers, the Internet doesn’t ask for permissions and collect private data like other browsers when you browse. This app is apt for users like India wherein the smartphone usage has started to pick pace recently after the entry of Reliance Jio that offered free data plans. Similar to Internet Amazon offers Kindle Lite app exclusively to India, where you can have access to millions of e-books.
